Romeo Area R/C Club
AMA Charter # 1244
This page is dedicated to the story of the Romeo Skyhawks. The Romeo Area Radio Control (R/C) Model Airplane Club has been located in Macomb County since it's inception in 1972. The club has had several flying locations with the current location in northern Macomb County, 5 miles southeast of Romeo. The flying field is located on property owned by the Wolcott Mill Huron-Clinton Metro Park located at 30 Mile and Kunstman Road. Directions
The field currently occupies about 6 acres and has tables for assembly of aircraft, several start-up stands, transmitter impound stand and covered pavilion with 2 picnic tables. The field is maintained by a club member resulting in a closely cut and manicured grass field. Tuesday and Thursday nights are reserved for student flight training. We encourage pilots and instructors to come out to the field, and others refrain from flying when a student wants to fly.
The club hosts several model flying contests, flight demonstrations, a youth day and family activities. The flying contests consist of Fun Flys, Stand-off Scale and electric Zaggy combat competitions. Youth Day brings out local parents and their children to enjoy a day of model building, a timed competition with food and refreshments.
For Labor Day weekend, the club puts together a model air show as part the Romeo Peach Festival activities.
